Welcome to my new "Glimpse of the Galaxy" page. Every few days or so you will be able to see one of my favourite images from the astronomical world. Planets, comets, stars and earth itself will all be featured. Thanks are due to NASA, JPL and the NSSDC who don't generally copyright their images.

The above image shows Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin - the second of 13 men on the moon - posing for a picture beside the stiffened US star spangled banner, near the Sea of Tranquility landing site.

The second cool image is of US Astronaut Bruce McCandless, during the first ever untethered space-walk early in 1984. He was working from the space shuttle Columbia at the time.
