Below are some of the best pictures of the Mars Pathfinder series that were taken during the Mars Pathfinder mission to the red planet in the summer of this year.
The first is of a panorama of the landing site, from which the Sojouner rover "roved" for about 6 weeks - 3 times longer than its life expectancy. It was renamed the Sagan memorial station after the astronomer Karl Sagan.
The sunset image was taken this July - a day lasts 24.6 hours on Mars - about 1 hour longer than earth and the image appears distincly orange becuase of actual rust particles in the Martian atmosphere - hence the RED planet !
The third image is one from the approach to Mars and details the landing site in the Vallis Marineris.
And the last huge montage is a very detailed image of the supposed Martian canal or canyon system - some of them over 5 miles deep - thats where the guys in "Mars Attacks !" were living and its why we didn't see them till they attacked !
